Joysagar Pukhuri (Tank) is a largest man-made tank of Asia located in the southern part of Rangpur Nagar. It holds great historical significance, as it was dug in just 45 days in 1707 A.D. by Swargodeo Rudra Singha in memory of his mother, Soti Joymoti. Covering an impressive area of 318 acres (1.28 square kilometers), this tank is a sight to behold.
One of the remarkable features of Joysagar Pukhuri is its water level, which is 14 feet higher than the ground level. This elevation adds to the grandeur of the lake and makes it a picturesque spot. Not only is it visually appealing, but it also serves as a habitat for various migratory birds that visit the tank every year. This makes it a paradise for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts.
Located 4.0 kilometers west of the center of Sivasagar Town, Joysagar Pukhuri is easily accessible to visitors. Its historical significance, coupled with its natural beauty, makes it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the rich cultural heritage of Assam.
