The Historical Mechagarh Borpukhuri, located in Sivasagar, Assam, is a significant monument from the Ahom era. This tank was dug and constructed by King Pratap Singha (also known as Chao Su-cheng-pha), who ruled from 1603 to 1641 AD, in memory of his mother, Mesiou Kuwaree. The tank and an accompanying temple, or 'devalaya,' were dedicated on the festival day of Makar (Magh) Sankranti in 1617 AD (1539 in the Assamese calendar).
The tank is notable for its large size, measuring 94 beu in length and 80 beu in breadth. Including the banks, the total length is 112 beu and the breadth is 18 beu. The depth of the tank is 18 feet. The area of the tank covers 27 pura, or 916 jhinai mati, which are traditional Assamese units of measurement.
Mechagarh Borpukhuri is a testament to the engineering skills and cultural values of the Ahom dynasty.
