Ghanashyam's House, located in Joysagar, is a remarkable building built by Ahom King Rudra Singha, who ruled from 1696 to 1714. This beautifully carved structure was dedicated to Ghanashyam, the chief architect of the Ahoms. Ghanashyam, originally a Muslim from Bengal, converted to Hinduism and played a significant role in the architecture of the Ahom kingdom.
The building is rectangular in shape and features a main building with a semicircular arched door, showcasing the influence of Islamic architecture. The front wall of Ghanashyam's House is decorated with terracotta plaques. These plaques are intricately designed with images of creepers, flowers, gods and goddesses, scenes from mythological epics, and various animals.
In front of the main structure, there is a small verandah, providing a welcoming entrance to the building. The combination of Islamic architectural elements and traditional terracotta art makes Ghanashyam's House a unique and fascinating piece of history in Joysagar.
