Updated: Jun 8

Fakuwa Doul is a historic site located in Joysagar, in the Sivasagar district of Assam. This site is home to a remarkable brick-built temple that was constructed during the reign of Swargadeo Rudra Singha, who ruled from 1696 to 1714.

The temple is unique in its octagonal shape and features a series of stairs leading to its central height. At the plinth level, there are eight angasikharas, or mini-towers, positioned at each of the eight corners of the structure. The stairs are tapered upward and lead to a flat platform at the top. Interestingly, each set of stairs has 38 steps.

This architectural marvel stands out as one of its kind in Assam, showcasing the rich heritage and skilled craftsmanship of the region. The Fakuwa Doul archaeological site is a testament to the artistic and architectural prowess of the past, offering visitors a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Assamese architecture.
