The Devidol Temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga, is located in Sivasagar, Assam. This historic temple was built by Ambika Devi, one of the queens of King Siva Singha, who ruled from 1714 to 1744 CE. The temple's design follows an axial plan, which means it is built in a straight line from the entrance to the main shrine. It consists of a main chamber (garbhagriha) where the deity is placed, and an attached porch (mukhamandapa).
The temple's tower (sikhara) is dome-shaped and topped with multiple layers of amalakas, which are stone disks that resemble a ribbed melon. Around the main tower, there are eight smaller towers (angashikharas), adding to its grandeur. The outer walls of the temple are adorned with various divine figures, showcasing intricate craftsmanship. The mukhamandapa, or entrance porch, is constructed with brick masonry and features a do-chala roof, which has two sloping sides. The Devidol Temple is a beautiful example of the architectural and cultural heritage of Assam, reflecting the devotion and artistry of the period.
