Bishnudol located on the southern bank of the Sibsagar tank in Sivasagar, is a beautiful and historic temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Assam. The structure of the temple includes three main parts: the garbhagriha, antarala, and mandapa. The garbhagriha, where the main deity is housed, has an octagonal shape. It is covered by a dome-shaped shikhara adorned with intricate honeycomb designs. Surrounding the main shikhara are eight smaller towers called angasikharas. The top of the shikhara is decorated with several layers of amalakas and crowned with a kalasa.
Bishnudol was built by Queen Ambika Devi, one of the queens of King Siba Singha, who ruled from 1714 to 1744 CE. The queen's dedication to Lord Vishnu and her love for architecture is evident in the temple's exquisite design.
Today, Bishnudol stands as a symbol of the region's architectural and cultural history, attracting visitors and devotees alike. Its unique blend of local and traditional elements makes it a must-visit site for anyone exploring the rich heritage of Assam.
