The Ajan Peer Dargah is a sacred mausoleum built in memory of Ajan Fakir, a well-known Muslim reformer and saint. Ajan Fakir arrived in the northeastern part of India from Baghdad in the 17th century. His contributions to the region are significant, as he played a vital role in unifying the people of the Brahmaputra Valley and stabilizing the Islamic religion in the state of Assam.
Ajan Fakir is revered as a legendary Sufi saint who composed numerous spiritual songs about Allah in the Assamese language. These songs are collectively known as Zikir. His teachings and spiritual compositions have left a lasting impact on the culture and religious practices in Assam.
The Dargah, or mausoleum, dedicated to Ajan Fakir is located about 22 kilometers away from the town of Sivasagar, at Saraguri Chapori on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. It stands as a symbol of peace and unity.
